Message from the Representative Director — Returning to Our Roots After 20 Years

Introduction

Thank you for visiting the Scalable Systems Co., Ltd. website. My name is Takahiko Tomuro, Representative Director of the company.

Scalable Systems Co., Ltd. began in 2005 with the name and concept Scalable Systems Technology Consultation.

From the beginning, our goal was never simply to sell computers or systems. We wanted to understand technology, work together with customers to understand their challenges, propose the systems needed to solve them, and take responsibility for making those systems work in practice. That was our starting point.

Returning to Our Roots After 20 Years

Over the past 20 years, the computing environment has changed dramatically. Processor performance has advanced enormously, while networks and storage have become far faster. HPC, GPU computing, cloud technologies, and AI — technologies that were either unavailable or difficult to imagine when we started the company — are now part of everyday computing.

Yet no matter how much technology advances, we believe the essence of our work remains the same. Rather than simply delivering new technologies and products, we investigate them, test them, combine them, understand their characteristics and limitations, and turn them into solutions that are genuinely useful in our customers' environments.

Putting Technology to Work

I personally continue to work hands-on with servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and other technologies, and remain directly involved in system evaluation and implementation.

Because technology in this field changes so rapidly, we believe it is important not to rely solely on catalogs and specifications. We actually install the equipment, combine different components, test the systems, investigate problems when they arise, and verify the results ourselves.

HPC and AI systems are not defined by CPU or GPU performance alone. Cooling, power design, storage, networking, operating systems, and software must all work together properly before a system can deliver its intended performance.

Our goal is not simply to sell high-performance products. Our goal is to build systems that our customers can use with confidence in their actual working environments.

AI as a New Partner

Today, an important change is also taking place in the way we ourselves work. One part of that change is AI.

We do not see AI only as a new business opportunity or as something to sell. For us, AI is a new tool that we use in our own daily work and, at times, a partner with which we can explore and think through problems.

By combining AI with work that people have traditionally performed on their own — technical research, comparison and evaluation, system design, problem analysis, and documentation — even a small company can work across a broader range of technologies and examine them in greater depth.

Of course, we do not believe that an answer produced by AI should simply be accepted as it is. People still need to work with the actual equipment, test it, visit the site, talk with customers, and make the final judgment. By combining experience and knowledge gained in real environments with AI as a new tool, we believe we can provide an even higher level of technical service.

The Advantages of Being a Small Company

Scalable Systems is not a large organization. We believe, however, that this is also one of our strengths.

Rather than having a sales representative hand a project over to a separate technical department, the engineers who actually design, build, test, and support the systems speak directly with our customers.

We consider not only whether something is technically possible, but whether the proposed configuration is truly necessary and whether there may be a more practical approach. When appropriate, we are willing to look beyond conventional methods, think through the problem together with the customer, and search for the most suitable solution. We believe this flexibility is one of the values that a small, technology-focused company can provide.

Technology Consultation

Looking back after 20 years, the kind of company we want to be from this point forward is not something entirely new.

Rather, we are returning to the idea we had when the company was founded in 2005: a company centered on Technology Consultation.

Selling products is not the objective in itself. We seek to understand the customer's problem and, when the solution requires it, provide hardware, build systems, install software, and support their operation. And when existing products or services alone cannot solve the problem, we are prepared to think through it together.

We are comfortable remaining a small company. In fact, being small allows us to speak directly with our customers and enables our engineers themselves to think, decide, and take responsibility through to the end.

The name we chose 20 years ago now seems, once again, to express very clearly the direction in which we want to move.

We will continue to embrace new technologies, but our focus will remain not on technology for its own sake, but on solving our customers' problems through technology.
